Melvin B. Wright

Melvin B. Wright was born in 1959. He grew up on a family farm in Warwick, Georgia. The farm is still in operation today. Mr. Wright earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Georgia, College of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences in 1981. In 1985, he received his Juris Doctor degree from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia, and moved to Florida. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1986, and is licensed to practice law in Tennessee. He has also handled cases in Mississippi, Arkansas, North Carolina, and New York.

Mr. Wright was board certified in civil trial law by the American Bar Association accredited National Board of Legal Specialization, National Board of Trial Advocacy, in 1999, and has remained board certified. He has the highest possible (AV) rating by the Martindale Hubbell national law directory. He has been selected as one of the Top 100 Lawyers by the National Trial Lawyers Association, a national organization composed of The Top 100 Trial Lawyers from each state. Mr. Wright is a member of the American Association for Justice, a national association of trial attorneys based in Washington, D.C. and has been a member since 1986.  He is a long time member of the AAJ Nursing Home Litigation Group.  He is also a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, the Southern Trial Lawyers Association, and the National Trial Lawyers Association.

Attorney Mr. Wright has lectured frequently on nursing home, assisted living facility, and long term care legal topics for 15 years to lawyers, nurses, and state long term care oversight agencies, such as the State of Florida, Department of Children and Families.

Mr. Wright has extensive experience in nursing home neglect and abuse cases. From 1997 to 2004, he lectured nationally on institutional abuse and neglect, and he has led a team of nursing home neglect and abuse attorneys that handled cases all over the country. In a case which involved the rape and impregnation of a mentally impaired nursing home resident, he won a $2,500,000 settlement on behalf of the victim and her child. Based on that case, he co-authored an article with Ann Wolbert Brugess, entitled Born into a Diaper: Discovering and Prosecuting Sexual Assault in a Nursing Home. The article appeared in the April, 2004 edition of the American Journal of Nursing.

Nathan P. Carter

Nathan Carter received his degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the Mercer University School of Law in Georgia. Mr. Carter is licensed to practice law in the State and Appellate Courts of Florida and Georgia, the Federal Middle District of Florida, and the Federal Northern and Southern Districts of Georgia, and has assisted local attorneys in handling cases in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Ohio, Maryland, and Washington D.C.

Mr. Carter takes an active role in fighting for the rights of nursing home patients and their families. He serves on the Nursing Home Task Force of the Florida Justice Association (FJA), and is also an active member of the American Association for Justice (AAJ). The AAJ’s mission is to help individuals and families, who have been harmed by the negligence or misconduct of others, obtain justice in court, no matter how powerful their opponents.

Attorney Mr. Carter frequently meets with and lobbies State Representatives and Senators on behalf of consumers and victims of corporate negligence, he has testified before the Florida Senate and House of Representatives, and he was invited to Washington, D.C. where he met with United States House and Senate committee members about nursing home reform issues.
